Another first for SWIMEXCELL….!!

The club held its first social event in September – ‘SUMMER BBQ & AWARDS EVENING’. In excess of 70 tickets were sold for what turned out to be a very pleasant afternoon and evening at the East Molesey Cricket Club. The fanatics turned out early to watch some club cricket while the BBQ connoisseurs tucked into some tasty food provided by the EMCC ably assisted by members of SWIMEXCELL dads. Meanwhile the swimmers ‘hung out’ as only youngsters know how, cool man!

Eighteen members of the club received awards on the night with Oriana Yim receiving the SWIMMER OF THE YEAR award. Oriana has been with SWIMEXCELL since we started – three years and before then she swam with the Learn - to - Swim arm SWIMSTARS. Her commitment and consistency to training can be emulated by all the swimmers. Also a first within a first, the Club now have a boys and girls Club Captain so if you have any ideas you want to feed through or suggestions to the adults who run the club then speak to Matthew Delaney and Alisha White, who hold these prestigious roles.

Thanks go to Karen Woodland and Diane Capon who organised the whole evening and Diane’s raffle was a huge success with many of our families leaving with a handful of gifts. Thank you to all those of you who donated gifts.

The club has been invited back next year so as soon as we know the date we’ll let you know, a sure date for your diary in 2010.

SWIMMING OFFICIALS

Have you ever wondered who those collection of people are who wear whites at open meets and every swimming competition run by the ASA. Without them competitions could not be held so their voluntary services are invaluable. These Officials mostly start out as parents sitting on poolside watching their children train and improve as competitive swimmers and decide they want to put something back into the sport. If you observe more closely you will see these officials take on roles such as, timekeepers, judges, starters, referees, recorders and marshals/whips. They all undertake training paid for by their own club so they learn the rules of swimming and what to look for during racing. If you are interested in helping in this area please speak to Karen or Penny to find out more

READING MEET

Thirteen SWIMEXCELL swimmers entered this meet which consisted of 50m, 100m and 200 IM swims. For those who entered the 200 IM this was the first time they had raced it and without exception the swimmers swam well. Joshua Hall lead the way by swimming first and coming first earning himself his first gold medal. Sancta Davies entered both the 100fc and 100bc events providing two exciting and intelligent swims. For her effort she recorded the third fastest time in her age group for the 100bc. Three other swimmers were rewarded by winning bronzes Matthew Delaney in the 200IM plus Joshua Hall and Ajay Divakharan in the 50fc. Five other swimmers earned either a Top 6 or Personal Best ribbon: James Harvey, Lisa Capon, Paige Belstead, Guilia Held, and Jessica Wenlock
